    About Us

By Jam is a story of ‘country girl meets city boy’, and how a t-shirt sparked a creative journey…

Country girl Jenni spent her childhood with siblings, dogs and farm animals on a family-run organic ice-cream farm nestled within the Devonshire valleys. Summer holidays spent haymaking, picnicking, making cider and browsing local jumble sales and village fairs defined a sense of style that she later built on in her creative studies at London’s Goldsmith’s College. City boy Michael grew up on the bustling streets of South London, influenced by music and his hairdresser mum, collecting comics, visiting the big galleries and going to gigs. He began to express his creative skills early on by making clothes, which led him to take formal training at London’s College of Fashion.

Jenni & Michael met in the early 2000s when they were both young designers with stalls at London’s famous Spitalfields Market. Designing and making clothes was a passion for them both, and it was while sharing a studio they began to collaborate, and that’s where the t-shirt comes in! They combined their ideas into the creation of a t-shirt which heralded the beginning of By Jam. They realised the eclectic mix of their urban and rural influences, together with their joint love for vintage style, brought a refreshing freedom to their designs. During the summer of 2007 they officially combined their talents into a new label, By Jam.

By Jam is a very English brand, and their original modern womanswear is beautifully tailored, often using vintage shapes and sumptuous nostalgic prints. Their designs have gained loyal followers who enjoy the playful sophistication of their collections.

Their busy London studios sit amongst a thriving creative community overlooking the awe-inspiring docklands along the River Thames. They continue to be driven by their love of fashion, and their aim remains to create beautiful clothes for girls who want to be inspired by what they wear.
